Maggots are actually the larval stage of the Order Diptera (flies), so I don't believe you have maggots on your driveway (you could, but bear with me).
I think you might have the larval stage of the Genus Curculio & Conotrachelus, which are commonly associated with acorns (oaks) and hickory nuts (hickory), respectively. Jun 03, I noticed today that there are lots of tiny white worms falling off an Ash tree (similar to maggots) but very easy to squish, which tells me that they are not maggots.
I squished a few and it is all white, inside and out. Never seen something like it!
Great to see pictures of the actual stages.

Their feeding results initially in a tattered appearance to the bushmulching.barted Reading Time: 3 mins. Mar 03, The larval forms of these weevils are very small and white; they essentially look like short, plump maggots. Adult weevils will lay eggs inside of acorns, and then the eggs hatch into the larvae, which bore holes to get out of the acorns once they have fallen off the bushmulching.barted Reading Time: 4 mins.

The idea is just disgusting me so what can I do to alleviate this problem?
Oak leaf rollers are small caterpillars usually found in oak trees. When infestation is severe, oak Bagworms. Little bags hidden in tree trunks may be home to thousands of bagworm eggs. Bagworm larvae infest both Cankerworms.
